USHUAIA INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL – Tierra del Fuego – Patagonia, Argentina
The 4th edition of the Ushuaia International Festival will be taking place from April 5th to April 19th, 2008.
The artistic level is once again superlative with the amazing news about the realization of our aim: the creation of the Ushuaia Philharmonic Orchestra as the resident orchestra of the Festival. An orchestra created by Maestro Jorge Uliarte integrated by musicians from different nationalities coming from Europe and Argentina that will surely be a milestone in the music world of the American continent. Young and brilliant artists, will be part of an organism, as a symbol of art, culture and tolerance.
Apart from the Ushuaia Philharmonic Orchestra, there will be participating prestigious groups like the Chamber Music Group “Concilium Musicum Wien” from Vienna-Austria, Arcus Trio (Graz, Austria, but integrated by musicians from Japan, Belgium and Hungary), the Quinteto Clasico Argentino (members of the Cordoba Symphonic Orchestra) and the Chamber Opera of the “Teatro Colon” celebrating the centenary anniversary of Argentinas most famous theatre. As soloists, we will be having the visit of the violinist Christine Maria Höller (Salzburg, Austria for the third consecutive year), Goran Filipec, a Croatian pianist who returns after the great repercussion in the 3rd edition, the Argentine pianist Mirta Herrera who lives in Rome, the young sensational pianist Valentina Babor from Germany, the Argentinean pianist Andrea Katz, the pianist Alberto Portugheis who lives in London, Valentin Surif, another Argentinean great pianist, the fantastic baritone Omar Carrion from Argentina, (Finalist of the Pavarotti Award), the soprano Andrea Maragno (Argentina) and the pianist Katja Borissova member of the Salzburg Mozarteum’s lyric department (Austria). The baton will be in charge of Maestro Jorge Uliarte (Argentina-Austria) and the young Argentinean orchestra conductor Maestro Pablo Dzodan as invited director.
There will be held conferences and master classes free of charge: For example: A conference conducted by Georgina Ginastera, the daughter of the famous Argentinean composer Alberto Ginastera, named “Alberto Ginastera’s Memories”. Another presentation will be conducted by Dr. Elisabeth Kollertisch who’ll be coming from Austria to introduce the History of the Music and Arts University of Graz. The violinist Christine Höller, who is teaching at the Salzburg Mozarteum, will conduct the Master classes giving a violin seminary in order to continue mastering the young violinists who have started to form themselves in Ushuaia. The pianist Valentin Surif will be giving a lecture about Piano Development and Literature. As well Alberto Portugheis will give piano master classes. Miguel Puch – technician for piano – will held a conference about the technical development of the pianos during the last 4 centuries until today.
The Ushuaia International Festival is under the auspices of very important international institutions like the Government of the Province of Salzburg (Austria), the City of Salzburg (Austria), the Embassy of Austria, the Embassy of Switzerland, The Embassy of Germany, University of Arts Graz (Austria) and the General Direction of the Antarctic taking part in the events that Argentina will present in the International Polar Year (2007/2008). As well the Festival is under protection of the Government of Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego and the President of Argentina.
