Festspiele SRL feels proud to announce the creation of the USHUAIA PHILARMONIC ORCHESTRA, a private organism founded ad hoc for the 4th Edition of the Ushuaia International Festival. This new challenge of Festspiele Society, is part of its foundational program, given to the success acquired throughout the three first editions, in which the last two counted with the presence of symphonic European organisms, we consider that it is the right moment to endow to the Ushuaia International Festival its own resident Orchestra.
We allow ourselves to start fulfilling goals, like the Lucerna Orchestra Festival (Switzerland) created and directed by the famous Master Claudio Abbado in 2003.
The organic is composed by 65 people. Thirty seven of them are foreigners from the most prestigious European orchestras, and the rest, are selected Argentine musicians. Young and brilliant artists, that will be part of an organism, as a symbol of art, culture, tolerance and living together to offer their talent in our Fourth Edition of the Ushuaia International Festival.-
JORGE ULIARTE (Argentina/Austria)

Jorge Uliarte received his university education at the Conservatorio de Santa Cecilia-Rome, the Conservatoire de Lausanne-Switzerland and the Royal College of Music in Manchester/England. He has realized an international career giving concerts in prestigious concert halls like: Teatro Colón-Buenos Aires, Auditorio de Santa Cecilia-Rome, Concertgebow-Amsterdam, Konzerthaus-Vienna, Philarmonia Narodova-Warshaw, Federal Hall-New York, Legion of Honour Theatre-San Francisco/California, Tivoli Concert Hall Copenhagen, Mozarteum Salzburg, Bösendorfer Saal / Vienna, Rathaus-Vienna, etc. Jorge Uliarte, who is currently conductor of the Berliner Symphoniker, was assistant of SIR GEORG SOLTI who invited him in 1991 to the Salzburg Festival. He worked with several orchestras, like: Mozarteum Orchester/Salzburg, Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Argentina, San Francisco Chamber Orchestra/California, Vienna Sinfonietta-Austria, Dvorak Symphony Orchestra-Prague, Europa Symphony Orchestra-Vienna, United Philharmonic-Vienna, Orquesta Sinfónica de Córdoba-Argentina, Orquesta Sinfónica de Salta-Argentina, Bucharest Philharmonic-Rumania, Orchestra du Chambre de Lausanne-Switzerland, KVZ Orchester-Zürich, Berliner Symphoniker and others. He was frequently invited to festivals such as: Taormina, Sorrento, Spoleto, Salzburg, Amsterdam, Rome, Brussels, Skoevde (Sweden), Festival Cervantino-Mexico, etc. His records were broadcasted in several radio and television stations in Europe and America such as: ORF-Radio and Television from Austria, Bayerischer Rundfunk-Munich/Germany, Radio Suisse Romande-Switzerland, RAI – Radio and television Rome/Italy, Film & Arts TV-Channel, ARTE TV-Channel, and many others.
Jorge Uliarte is Doctor of Philosophy in Art History and speaks 6 languages.
CHRISTINE-MARIA HÖLLER (Salzburg, Austria)
Violinist
Christine-Maria Höller, born in Bischofshofen near Salzburg / Austria, began playing the violin at the age of seven. By her tenth birthday, she had already been accepted as a student at the Mozarteum University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Salzburg. Her professors were Erika Lösch, Prof. Zehetmaier and Prof. L. Hagen. She completed her orchestral diploma and the final concert diploma with high honors.
Her education was further rounded off by master courses with other professors, like: Shmuel Ashkenazy, Rony Rogoff, Igor Ozim, Ljerko Spiller, Michael Frischenschlager, Dimitri Sitkovetsky, Leonidas Kavakos, Stefan Picard, Mauricio Fuks and Gilles Apap.
Beside her concert performances she is teaching violin at the Mozarteum as assistant to Prof. Lukas Hagen. Christine–Maria Höller has already been awarded numerous prizes and honors through her participation in national and international contests such as 1st prize for the youth performance “Jugend musiziert”, and the International Violin Contest in Gorizia, Italy. Since taking her degree she has fully dedicated her time to concert performances. Her musical spectrum ranges from classical works to contemporary music, already having given international performances of works by modern composers at various festivals. Her duets with a variety of pianists have included Rico Gulda, Luca Monti, Irma Kliauzaite, Gerda Guttenberg and Noriko Shiozaki. Her chamber music partners include ensembles such as "Salzburger Musici" and "Concertino Salzburg". As a soloist, she has appeared with orchestras such as "Capella Istropolitana", "Youth Philharmonic Salzburg", "Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra", "Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra" (A. Fagan), "Radio Symphony Orchestra Prague" (W. Valek, P. Feranec), “Orquesta Sinfonica De Salta” (Jorge Uliarte, Felipe Izcaray) the “Dvorak Symphonic Orchestra Prague” (Jorge Uliarte, Claude Villaret) and the “Berlin Symphonic Orchestra” (Jorge Uliarte). Over the last few years, the highlights of her artistic performance have included several appearances at the Large Festival Hall Salzburg, the Mozart Pentecost Festival in Istanbul, the Music Festival in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Munich Celibidache Festival, the "Young Artists" concert series hosted by the International Mozarteum Foundation, the Dortmund Concert Hall, the Rudolfinum Prague, the Festival Of Young Artists, Bayreuth and the festivals 2005, 2006 and 2007 in Ushuaia, Argentinia. Christine-Maria's first CD entitled "Portrait" was released by Gramola in December 2002 and features works by Dvorak, Kreisler, Sarasate, Prokofieff and Mozart. Meanwhile additional productions are available.
GORAN FILIPEC (Croacia)
Pianist
Goran Filipec, one of the most distinguished Croatian pianists of the younger generation, was born in 1981 in Rijeka, where he obtained primary and secondary musical education at the School of music “Ivan Matetię Ronjgov”.
He studied piano (class of Marina Ambokadze) and musicology at the Music academy “Ino Mirkovich” in Lovran (1997 – 2001), and later he specialized his skills at the Hochschule für Musik Köln in the class of Arbo Valdma (2003-2004), Schola Cantorum in Paris in the class of Eugen Indjic (2003 – 2006) and Music academy of Zagreb in the class of Evgeny Zarafiants (2006 – 2007).
He is constantly specializing in piano master classes of Oxana Yablonskaya and Elisso Virsaladze.
Goran Filipec is threefold winner of the Croatian national piano contest (1995, 1997, 1999), and winner of other awards, of which may be mentioned: 1st prize at the contest "Istria Nobilissima" (1997, 1999, 2002), 1st prize at the 3rd Lions Grand Prix in 1997, and 1st prize at the 1. Rijeka Music Contest in 1998.
He performed with Berlin Symphony Orchestra, Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, Rijeka Opera Symphony Orchestra and Croatian Chamber Orchestra with conductors like Jorge Uliarte, Vjekoslav Šutej, Pavle Dešpalj, Leonid Nikolaev and others.
His concerts where often recorded and broadcasted by the Croatian National Television and Radio and the Radio Suisse Romande.
Goran Filipec performed in many renown concert halls like the the Carnegie Hall in New York, Grande Salle du Conservatoire de Musique Geneve, Salle Frank Martin, Palais de Beaux Arts – Salle des Abeilles, Salle Cortot in Paris, National Concert Hall in Dublin, Large Concert hall of the Muziekcentrum Vredenburg in Utrecht, «Vatroslav Lisinski» Concert Hall in Zagreb, Croatian national theatres in Rijeka and Split, to mention a few.
ALBERTO PORTUGHEIS (Argentina)
Pianist
Born in the city of La Plata, Argentina, and coming from a Russian and Rumanian family, he studied in Buenos Aires with Vicente Scaramuzza, ending his courses in Geneva and London, where he also studied violin and orchestral direction.
After obtaining the first award in Geneva at the “Concours de Virtuosité”, Portugheis begins his international career, visiting more than forty countries, giving performances, music chamber concerts, as well as participating as a soloist in the most prestigious orchestras of the world, including: The Royal Philarmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, London Mozart Players, Philarmonia, English Chamber Orchestra, Paris and Israel Sinfoniettas, Orchestre Suisse Romande, Buenos Aires National Symphonic and the Buenos Aires Philarmonic.
He has been in frequent radio and television programs in Europe, and actually, he gives courses and Master classes in many cities of Europe and the United States. The last ones have taken place in Rhodes, Athens, Nicosia, Dubrovnik, Moscow and New York at the Juilliard School.
Alberto Portugheis has an extensive repertoire which goes from the baroque music period (including his owns transcriptions) until nowadays. Many of today’s composers have written pieces for him.
Among his most acclaimed recordings, there are four ballads of Chopin, the second sonata of Alfred Nieman, the integral of Alberto Ginastera for piano and the chamber music with piano, piano masterpieces for Khachaturian and his concert together with the London Symphonic Orchestra, the sonatas for cello and piano of Rachmaninoff and Shostakovitch, and a CD dedicated to the piano masterpieces of Rossini.
MIRTA HERRERA (Argentina)
Pianist
Mirta Herrera, a native of Buenos Aires, received her diploma from the “Juan José Castro” Conservatory, while studying with Antonio De Raco. Having won the “Vincenzo Scaramuzza” prize for Italy, Mrs. Herrera continued her studies at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome with Carlo Zecchi and at the C.I.S.M. (Centro Internazionale Studi Musicali) with Fausto Zadra.The German government awarded a fellowship to the pianist, enabling her to study at the “Musikhochschule” in Cologne with Gūnter Ludwig. There she obtained her diploma with the highest honours. In addition, Mrs. Herrera received the “Licence de Concert” at the Conservatory of Lausanne. She was the assistant of Fausto Zadra at the Conservatory from 1978 to 1980, as well as at the “Ecole Internationale”.
Currently the pianist is a professor for the Conservatory and teaches advanced classes of piano in Italy and abroad.Mirta Herrera also has a successful solo career, playing concerti and chamber music in South and North America, Africa, Asia and Europe.
KATIA IANEVA-BORISSOVA (Bulgaria/Austria)
Pianist
Austrian pianist, born in Burgas, Bulgaria, who fulfilled her studies in her birth country. Along her career, she has had an intense activity as a performer in the lyric field with singing celebrities like: Placido Domingo, Ferrucio Furlanetto, Edita Gruberova, Rolando Villazon, Ana Netrebko, Carlos Alvarez, Renée Fleming, among others.
Contributes closely with directors like Claudio Abbado, Zubin Metha, Valery Gergiev, Lorin Maazel. She has presented herself at lyric performances in settings like the “Vienna State Opera”, “Spring Musical Festival” in Prague, the Theatre “Mabrinski” of Saint Petersburg and others. She has offered courses of perfection in her gender around many cities of Europe like in Bari /Italy, Sophia/ Bulgaria, Salzburg/ Austria, Munich/ Germany, Vienna/ Austria.
Katia Borrisova is a Master instructor of the Lyrics Department at the MOZARTEUM University of Salzburg. At the same time, participates actively, elaborating operas for the Salzburg Festival.
XAVIER INCHAUSTI (Argentina)
Violinist
He was born in the city of Bahia Blanca, the 16th of September, 1990.
His Masters have been Serge Lazarev and Fernando Hasaj. Actually, he studies with the Master Rafael Gintoli.
In September 2002 he makes his début in the Municipal Theatre with the Concert in D-major Op.61 of Beethoven together with the Bahia Blanca Symphonic.
In 2003 he played lived on ATC Channel the Prelude of the Partita in E Major of J.S. Bach, and Mozart’s Concert Nº 5 at main room of the Colon Theatre.
He also performed at the main room of the Colon Theatre in the year 2004, J.S. Bach’s Partita Nº 2 in D-minor for violin.
The daily newspaper La Nacion, qualified his performance as “excellent”. He presented himself as soloist in most of all the Symphonic Orchestras of the country, performing great concerts for violin with the directors J. Ulla, Gustavo Plis Sterenberg, David Hendel, Carlos Vieu, Eugene Sirotkine (Russia), Pablo Boggiano, Carlos Calleja, Gustavo Guersman, Reynaldo Zemba, Luis Bozzani, Armando Sanchez Malaga, Pablo Herrero, Roberto Fabbroni and Javier Logioia Orbe.
At the Great Rex Theatre he performed the Concert of Beethoven in a cycle of the Mozarteum noon. The newspaper La Nacion entitled the review as “Brilliant performance of Xavier Inchausti”.
He was nominated as “Classical Music Revelation” of the “Clarin Awards 2004” and received the scholarship “Jeanete Arata de Erize” 2004 at the Argentine Mozarteum, Fundacion Antorchas, Fondo Nacional de las Artes, Municipalidad Bahia Blanca and Cultural Institute of Buenos Aires.
He was invited as a soloist to participate at the National Symphony with the Master Pedro Ignacio Calderon and the Cuyo University Symphonic.
He has been an active student of the Salzburg’s Mozarteum and entered to the Vienna University with the professor Michael Frieschenschlager.
He performed in Vienna as a soloist together with the Musikverein Pressbaum Orchester, Mendelsohn’s Concert and was an invited soloist at the Sarajevo Philarmonic, playing Tchaicosvsky’s concert under the direction of Pablo Boggiano in the overture of the Bosnia International Festival, obtaining excellent reviews in both presentations.
He has also opened the 2006 seasons of the symphonic orchestras of Bahia Blanca, Parana and Santa Fe playing Tchaicovsky’s concert.
With Brahms concert he opens the 2nd and 3rd of March, 2007, the symphonic seasons of Bahia Blanca under the direction of Gustavo Plis Sterenberg, the same with the Santa Fe Symphonic directed by Reinaldo Zemba and with the Rosario Symphonic directed by Javier Logioia Orbe. He played Brahms with the Neuquen Symphonic directed by Master Andres Tolcachir for the cycle “Armonicus”. Performed the integral whims of Paganini live in Parana, invited specially by the Mariano Moreno Association with comments of Master Juan Carlos Cavallaro.
Performed as a soloist together with the Rosario Chamber Orchestra, Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and masterpieces of Wieniawski, Kreisler, Paganini and Sarasate under the direction of Roberto Fabbroni.
With the concert Nº 1 of Paganini he presented together with the Academy of the Colon Theatre, the Mendoza Philarmonic, the Entre Rios Symphonic and San Juan’s too.
He will be performing with the Bahia Blanca Symphonic Orchestra on July the concert Nº 1 of D. Shostackovich and in the Mozarteum noon.
He received the scholarship of “Mastercourse of Keshet Eilon” in Israel and was invited by Shlomo Mintz, with who he took classes along the course together with Haim Taub and Sihat Askin. He has also offered three concerts for professors, students and a great audience with the famous violinist Ida Handel. When he returns, performs a concert with the integral whims of Paganini at the Temple “Amijai”.
The newspaper La Nacion entitle the review “Inchausti, exaltation of the violin art” and qualified it as “excellent”, concert that he also performed at the Music Conservatory Gilardo Gilardi of La Plata.
At the Great Rex Theatre, he played as a soloist Tchaicovsky’s concert under the directions of Master Benzecry in the cycle of the Mozarteum Noon.
Together with the Academic Camerata of the Argentine Theatre, he performed a concert as a soloist in all his pieces.
Among his future performances, there will be a Tchaycovsky’s concert in Buenos Aires. A violin and piano show with Cristina Filoso in the Argentine Theatre of La Plata, the concert Nº 1 of Shostackovich in Europe, Paganini’s Nº 1 in Asia and the integral sonata of Esaye.
OMAR CARRIÓN (Argentina)

Was born in Buenos Aires. His parents Antonio Carrion and Hilda Angelici – professional singers – were his first teachers. Diploma at the “Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colon” with high honors.
Master classes with Delila Rigal and the famous singer Sherrill Milnes were realized. Finalist of the Pavarotti-Competition in 1988. Winner of the Rossini-Competition in 1990. Omar Carrion realized important opera productions in the “Teatro Argentino de La Plata” like in: Cosi Fan Tutte, Fledermaus, Turandot, Boheme, Barber of Seville, etc. In 1990 he gave his debut at the world famous Teatro Colon and celebrated successful performances with the outstanding singers like Placido Domingo, Mirella Freni, Sherill Milnes, Leo Nucci, Leona Mitchell, Alen Fondarz, Peter Dvorskz, Raul Gimenez, Jennifer Larmoore, Denis Graves, Neil Schicoff, etc.
Omar Carrion realized many opera rolls in foreign countries like as:
Brazil, Ecuador, Uruguay, Columbia, Santiago de Chile, Spain, Germany, Greece, etc. CD productions followed, together with Luis Lima, Sherill Milnes, Dario Volonte.
Omar Carrion is one of the most interesting talents of Argentina and with his overwhelming voice he will enchant the audience during the next Festival Internacional de Ushuaia.

ANDREA MARAGNO (Argentina)

Borns in Buenos Aires city and begins there her music studies with her father, Master Virtù Maragno, and Prof. Zoraida Clement as a sing teacher. Travels to Germany and studies vocal technics with the professor Julia Hamari and Hanno Blashcke. He is accepted, afterwards, at the High Studies Institute of the Teatro Colon. Obtains the scholarship of the Fondo Nacional de las Artes, Fundación Antorcha, and Fundación Leonor Hirsch, in a course given by the soprano Regine Crepin and Denise Dupleix. Actually, she is in charge of scholarships of the Teatro Colon Foundation. She performed many chamber concerts and choir symphonies as a soloist, in various theatre of the country: Gloria of Vivaldi, cantatas and Magnificat of Bach, Mass brevis, Mass of Crowns, and masses of Mozart; Stabat mater of Pergolesi; Stabat Mater of Schubert, Requiem of Brahms, and the 9º Symphony of Beethoven together with the Rosario Orchestra in the Theatre “El Circulo” in Rosario. Participates in the Mozarteum Noon Cycles, Argentine “Confitebur” of the Vesperae Solennes De Confessore KV 339, together with the UBA Choir and Orchestra at the Gran Rex Theatre. In her Opera repertoire she has had different playing roles, like Belinda of Dido and Eneas of Purcell in the Roma Theatre of Avellaneda. The Buenos Aires House of Opera invites her to sing in “Nabucco” together with the soprano Adelaida Negri and the baritone Leonardo Lopez Linares in the Avenida Theatre. She sings the role of Micaela in “Carmen” of Bizet with the Entre Rios Orchestra conducted by R. Zemba, set by E. Casullo. She sings the role of Donna Elvira in “Don Giovanni” of Mozart together with the Salta Symphonic Orchestra. She’ll be singing soon the role of Marzelline in “Fidelio” of Beethoven at the Avenida Theatre.
